The muffins here are fantastic, and they have some less common flavors such as peach almond. My favorite is probably the carrot. They also advertise for their cupcakes, but I've never tried one. Aside from the bakery, they also have some prepared foods which are good but not outstanding. I've had their sandwiches, for which you can choose the bread. I've asked for a baguette, but they never seem to have it.

Nice food market, but definitely priced for the neighborhood. Good prepared foods. If you are in the area and in need of lunch I would check this place out.

I enjoy it here. I think it's mostly nostalgia perhaps. I use to go here all the time when I was a kid growing up in the area. I do have better options partly because I can drive 30 minutes to Whole Foods in Princeton or just down the road to McCaffrey's in Newtown, less than 10 minutes from where I live. Nonetheless, knowing of this shop since being a kid, I still sometimes stop by on my way home from Princeton Junction train station after spending a work day in Manhattan. The muffins are usually good..sometimes they aren't just as sometimes you go to a great pizza place and just..manage to get one of the bad pizzas of the night. Decent sandwiches however again..I can get better. For Washington Crossing it makes sense for this place to do well, and I think that's sort of why they don't do better than they can; complacency to a point. Not sure what I'd suggest. Whenever I drive pass Anchor Crossing I get thinking about how great it would be for that shopping center to have some sort of McCaffrey's competitor. I don't think Colonial Farms is there yet..but in my dream world either Colonial Farms or Kings Market would come into Anchor Crossing and crank up the high end grocery store competition some. For now though, Colonial Farms should do it's best in avoiding complacency.

Their muffins have gone downhill as have their cookies. The hot bar is still hit or miss and the grocery is still way overpriced. I've gotten under baked muffins (gooey dough in the center), muffins with barely any ingredients (see my strawberry muffin photo and good luck finding a strawberry) and stale cookies. Their stuff is not cheap so it pisses me off when I get home and the item is a complete disappointment :( The staff is still SUPER nice and the convenient location still brings me here every once in a while. But I'm definitely no longer a regular. I really want to love this place but their quality is just not up to par at their prices.

When you live in or near Washington Crossing, and it is not permitted to build a commercial area that would be large enough to contain a supermarket, what you are left with is Colonial Farms, a convenience store sized, high end deli. Here, you pay for the convenience of not having to drive up to Newtown to shop. And, it fits into the atmosphere in Wash X that it is a bedroom community for high wage earners who prefer their town just as it is. To each his/her own. Colonial Farms caters to this community and does a fairly good job of it. The bakery usually has very good muffins and other sweet goodies. The deli makes really good sandwiches and salads, and the rest of the store is stocked with the basics needed to prepare your next meal. But, don't make the mistake of thinking this store is all you need on an every day basis. It is too small and select for that. For large shopping excursions you still need to find an Acme, or Whole Foods or Wegmans, etc., to get broader choice and better price. Still, for that morning coffee and breakfast sandwich, or a quick stop for a much better than Wawa customized lunch, or just to buzz in for a European chocolate bar, Colonial Farms be the place.

Nice little store. Not sure what is so gourmet though? Looked like they would have everything you might need. Prepared foods looked good. We got some baked goods and they were very good.

I bought a block of cheese for 7 dollars here. When I opened it at home, it was moldy on both sides so I returned it. Went back a few days later for something else, I checked out the cheese section...they repackaged the moldy cheese I returned and cut off the section I cut off ( it was significantly smaller than the rest) and still charged the same price. Gross.

The store was always outrageously expensive with poor quality produce but at least their bakery was good. Now their bakery has really gone down hill. We ordered 2 cakes in the past month - the first they totally messed up the order on and when I called to give the feedback the female owner yelled at me for not knowing better when and how to order their cakes. The second cake was chocolate cake with white buttercream frosting. The icing was tasty but the decorations were minimal and disappointing with pale yellow writing that barely stood out against the off white frosting and the chocolate cake was absolutely dry. I am going to go to Cramers for future cakes.

My bf and I love this store! The hummus and chicken salad are to die for! They have yummy prepared meals from seafood piaella to baby back ribs. The employees couldn't do enough for us; especially the guys behind the deli counter!

Convenient and reliable for being able to pick up something for lunch or a breakfast treat. I also love the fact that they carry European items like Orangina and good cheeses, chocolates like in a French or Italian corner store. Their sandwiches like fresh mozzarella/tomato/basil on the delicious baguette hit the spot (when available). Its great that I can count on fresh coffee if I need to stop early in the AM like a neighborhood family place when I am heading to a long day at the office or to the airport. I really want to like the bakery...but its been an overpriced letdown usually. I also was burned a couple times, as I went to pick up some baked goods to take to dinner at a friend's house...the pre-made full-price (more on price later) goods like cupcakes and mini cakes were STALE. It was embarrassing for me to say the least, and has happened a couple of times. Selling stale goods appears to be standard practice. Fool me once, now twice..?? Another reviewer mentioned the baklava...have to see if that can help rejuvenate my impression of the bakery. Prices are high, but I pay for convenience as there is not much else around if I am looking for a quick run to the store or for prepared food.

Leaving my doctor's appointment, I asked for a recommendation for a quick spot to grab lunch and the receptionist said, "Colonial Farms. Definitely." So, I stopped by and eyed the delicious-looking pre-made tomato-mozarella sandwiches before ordering a customized sandwich at the deli counter. The Boar's Head Turkey, goat cheese, and pesto mayo combination was delicious and fresh on a nice, soft hoagie. On my way out, I was drawn in by the "Best of Philly 2011: Cupcake" sign and bought 2 of the gourmet ones to try. The Pumpkin with the Cinnamon Cream Cheese icing was pretty delicious, reminding me a lot of a carrot cake. The Chocolate Mousse had a little too much chocolate and was not as light as I would have liked from mousse. Evidently, the BOP award was for the simple cupcakes, so maybe I'll try a more classic one next time...and there will be a next time.

Colonial Farms is much more than a convenience grocery. Baked goods, prepared meals (both cold and hot) deli meats, sandwiches and salads; ALL EXCELENT. The staff is courteous and almost always smiling. They are a bit pricey, but like I said all quality. I would not do my grocery shopping there, but it is great for last minute items if you don't want to drive to the grocery store in neighboring Newtown. Fast friendly service and quality items, a nice neighborhood grocery.

Mmmm tortellini.... My secondary family lives right down the road from here, and as secondary offspring I've been sent on many an errand to Colonial Farms. It's a darling little supermarket sporting high-end grocery items, but in this part of PA I'd expect no less. The real lure of this location lays behind the counter, so don't lean too close or you might end up drooling on the glass once you catch sight of all the pre-made goodies. There's a deli that will whip you up a sandwich as big as your head, but really it's the prepared dishes that are so amazing here. The antipasto dishes are a favorite, as are the mixed veggies. As a secondary family member, I've often stopped in here to pick up a side dish or two to compliment my secondary mom's dinner plans. They're just a stone's throw away from the park, too, so if you're feeling the urge for an impromptu picnic you can get everything you need here.

I've been shopping at Colonial Farms for over 15 years. After a recent renovation (5 years ago?), the store is looking good. Fresh, simple prepared foods are always available: grilled asparagus, grilled chicken, soup, pre-made and made-to-order sandwiches, lasagna, etc. They are always busy around dinner time. Colonial Farms also offers a deli and a decent small gourmet grocery selection: everything from fruits & veggies to frozen pizza and organic milk. I really like the store. Their desserts are actually really great, probably twice as good as their prepared foods. For special occasions, call ahead and order complete catering for 15-300+ people. Great trays for holidays, too. My only complaint is that the prepared foods rarely change. Otherwise, its a great gourmet grocery with fine prepared foods and desserts. And its much cheaper than Jamie Hollander!

When I first came here, I was impressed by the bakery selection until one day I got turned off. 1. But first the good. Bakery items taste good. The prepared foods are fresh. Creative salad items. The Hispanic ladies and gents behind the prepared foods are very helpful and do a great job. 2. Now the bad. Since there are few local groceries, I bought from there a few times and was disappointed with how dried out things like lemons are. Brought a $1 lemon home to find out it was totally dry when cut open. Not a drop of juice. Sad. 3..And now the ugly. They used to give a discount if you bought a certain amount of cupcakes, until one day the discount was gone. When asked, a large man with a beard says no such thing was ever done there before. He was rude and unprofessional. This guy failed Customer service 101. He's always there and I'm guessing he's manager or owner. In summary, I spent a lot of money here, but my last experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be back.

I eat here for lunch sometimes and it is always delicious. I recently ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday and it was amazing. I can not say enough good things about how it made my day. They really did a great job I would recommend them.
